Welcome

The Fort Lee Education Foundation is a private, non-profit organization created to help support programs in the Fort Lee public schools.  The Foundation is committed to providing quality educational opportunities for the children in our district by supporting innovative educational projects and areas of service not supported by public funding.  The Foundation relies on individual and corporate donations, and community fundraising events for support of these projects.

  MINI-GRANT GUIDELINES

The Fort Lee Education Foundation is requesting proposals for projects to be funded during spring semester 2006 and the 2006-2007 school years.  This year we have funds available to support grants in amounts up to $500 each for all types of projects in all disciplines.  We encourage all teachers to submit a grant application beginning November 1, 2005 .  All applications must be submitted on or before the deadline of February 1, 2006 for spring 2006 funding or April 1, 2006 for school year 2006-2007 funding .  No proposals will be accepted after this date.  Applications can be downloaded as PDF or Word files.

Introduction

The Fort Lee Education Foundation is an independent non-profit organization established to foster, promote and support the Fort Lee School System.  FLEF supports the mission of the Fort Lee Schools to provide quality opportunities for educational experiences for all children of the Fort Lee School District .  The focus of FLEF is to support areas of service that are not addressed by public funding.  As part of this effort, the Fort Lee Education Foundation has established an annual funding cycle for teacher mini-grants to benefit students in grades K-12.

Purpose

Teacher mini-grants are awarded for projects/activities that cost-effectively enhance the educational opportunities for students and the standard curriculum as set forth by the Fort Lee Schools.  Preferably, projects are “hands-on” and encourage active student participation.  Examples of projects funded include instructional materials, technology/equipment, school-wide presentations or events, and specialized classroom activities.  All items purchased will become property of the Fort Lee School system.

Eligibility

Classroom Teachers (K-12), individually or in teams are eligible.

Criteria

A project may be funded only if there are no other revenues by which it can be financed in a timely manner by the Fort Lee Schools.  The cost-effectiveness of the project will demonstrate that each dollar of Fort Lee Education Foundation funding will be spent in order to give the maximum educational impact to students.  The project’s level of creativity and innovation should have the potential to motivate students in their educational experience and to enable teachers to duplicate or build on activities.  Funding for all projects must be approved by the Fort Lee Education Foundation.

As a rule, the Education Foundation does not fund the following, unless they can be shown to be integral to the project:

·         Food/ refreshments

·         Transportation/ field trips/ travel

·         Monetary awards

·         Fees/ honoraria for special participants or consultants

·         Staff development

·         Large purchases of books

Funding

Individual grant requests should not exceed $500.  Exceptions to this limit will only be made if it can be shown that: 1) the project is not feasible at the $500 dollar level and 2) specific reasons for higher project costs are outlined explicitly in the budget narrative section of the proposal.

Process

An original and three (3) copies of the completed application must be submitted to the Fort Lee Education Foundation at 210 Whiteman Street , Fort Lee , NJ 07024 . Please be sure to cover the applicant name and signature box at the top of the application before making the three copies of your proposal. For spring 2006 funding, applications must bereceived by February 1, 2006 . For school year 2006-2007 funding, applications must be received by April 1, 2006 . All proposals will be reviewed by the Fort Lee Education Foundation and approved by the Fort Lee Education Foundation.  Applicants will be notified of the grant awards in March 2006 and in May 2006.  Projects to be funded must be completed no later than twelve months from the date of the award.

Evaluation

Grant recipients will have twelve (12) months from the date of the award to complete their projects.  A project evaluation report (a copy of which will be included in the award package) must be completed at the end of the project or no later than twelve (12) months from the date of the award.  Any funds not spent as outlined in the proposal budget must be returned to the Fort Lee Education Foundation.  If there are any questions about the grant process, please call Anthony Clores at 201 638 5294 or Mike Feiler at 201 951 7107, or E-mail Mikey@flefnj.org
